FINDING SOLUTIONS BEYOND BLAME

How many of you believe that people should change for democracy to work? Don't you think the root cause for all the problems is people's prejudices like caste, religion, etc in selecting the leaders? If yes, I want to ask you all a few questions.

First, Did the people of India ask for democracy? The answer is NO. It is the minority elites of our country who opted for democracy for the majority of People

Second, don't you think people supported the government even when it was tough for them in these 77 years of independence? The answer is YES. One such example is the demonetization of currency.

They were ready to accept all mistakes in its implementation and supported the government.

Last question, How's it possible for us to stay together in such a diverse culture? The answer again is the law-abiding nature of people. So what more do we want? If people should change then why did we form these institutions and why should people pay taxes to the government?

So let us not happily abdicate our responsibility by giving pious-looking answers like people should change because the problem lies with the designing of democracy and not with people.

Ex: Have you ever wondered why people vote for criminals in elections? It's because criminals often are the undeclared judges in a society where there is no justice. People go to them for justice and to settle disputes because there is no hope for justice through formal channels. Thus the problem lies in justice delivery and not in the people.

In the end, I would just like to say that people are victims in our dysfunctional democracy and we should stop blaming them. To bring change let us analyze and understand the root cause and address it to get a solution
